Province terminating Brightscape's deal

The Manitoba Government is terminating its agreement with a Brandon company to provide housing for youth in care, saying a third-party report led to an investigation that discovered significant financial deficiencies.
Brightscape Endeavours’ agreement will end on June 18, a Manitoba Families spokesperson stated in an email to the Sun. The children in the care of the company will be transitioned elsewhere by the time the deadline arrives.
Brightscape CEO Jesse Dourado stated in an email that the company has just under 30 children in care at 14 homes in the Brandon area, of which 70 per cent are Indigenous, Black or people of colour. ....

Child and Family Services of Western Manitoba is coming under fire for apprehending a First Nations newborn shortly after birth, putting the parents through an agonizing two-month period before the infant was returned to them.

Brandon couple reunited with newborn son who was apprehended 2 days after birth


But Jessica now fears the two months the baby was out of her home might have an impact on his development. 
I can t get back the breastfeeding bond and I can t get back those two months, she said. And I don t know how this will affect him in the future in terms of his development, whether or not it will affect you know, they say that babies remember things like these, and I really hope he doesn t.
Nearly 100 babies apprehended
According to figures obtained by CBC News thorough a freedom of information request, 93 babies under three days old were apprehended in the first eight months of 2020.  ....
