United board awaits election results

ALEXIS United School Board members met April 8 and approved the amended agenda.
“The amended agenda is due to the unknown results of Tuesday’s school board election,” said Superintendent Jeff Whitsitt, “Warren County has the largest voting body of the four counties that United lies in. Some 90 absentee ballots were issued in Warren County and all have not been returned. Four winners will be named by April 20th or when enough mail-in ballots have been returned to designate the winners.”
Whitsitt then recognized the outgoing board members. Aaron Leary, who served on the board for six years, received a “U Made A Difference” plaque. Debbie Meeker-King was the initial recipient of a “U Rock” Award. She served on the Alexis and United school boards for 20 years. ....

United school board approves HVAC project at high school

Students at United High School are finally getting air conditioning.
School board members on Thursday night approved a bid from Crawford Construction for $611,000 for the HVAC project at the high school campus.
Superintendent Jeff Whitsitt tells WGIL that the project is part of the school’s 10-year Health/Life/Safety Survey which had bonds issued and earmarked for the work.
“Our 10-year Life/Safety Survey indicated we had ventilation issues here at the high school and that the solution was forced air/HVAC systems. We’re steam heat,” Whitsitt told WGIL Friday morning. “We just don’t move the air in our classrooms enough to meet code. So, we had to do an HVAC so when we did our bond issue back in 2017, this was part of that project.” ....
