B.C. mom finally meets newborn son after coming out of COVID-19 coma

VANCOUVER
An Abbotsford mom who gave birth by emergency C-section while battling COVID-19 has been brought out of an induced coma and has finally met her baby boy.
An update posted on the family’s GoFundMe page says doctors eased Gillian McIntosh out of sedation late last week and she no longer requires a ventilator, although she remains in the ICU.
McIntosh tested positive for COVID-19 on Nov. 6, while nearly 36 weeks pregnant, and was admitted to hospital a few days later.
On Nov. 10, with her condition deteriorating, doctors decided she needed a ventilator.
The emergency C-section was performed that night and her newborn son spent the first 15 days of his life in the NICU while his mother was in a coma in the ICU. ....

ABBOTSFORD, B.C. A mother who gave birth while in a coma due to complications from COVID-19 is awake and has met her newborn son for the first time.
Gillian McIntosh was given an emergency C-section after arriving at a hospital in Abbotsford, B.C., with COVID-19 symptoms in November.
The 37-year-old was placed in an induced coma and on a ventilator due to complications from the virus.
McIntosh’s family says in a statement that she was eased out of sedation late last week and has been taken off the ventilator. ....

It s been a harrowing month for an Abbotsford family after Gillian McIntosh, who had COVID-19, was put into a medically induced coma after giving birth to her son.
McIntosh was diagnosed with COVID-19 on Nov. 6 and was admitted to Abbotsford Regional Hospital a few days later. She was two days shy of 36-weeks pregnant and the doctors knew they had to get the baby out before it was too late family friend Corina Rochon wrote in a GoFundMe post that was started last month and has raised nearly $100,000.
“Their beautiful baby boy was born by emergency C-section Nov. 10, but Gillian was put in a medically induced coma and remained in intensive care, fighting for her life and unable to meet her newborn son, according to the GoFundMe. ....
