Landmark Agreement To Secure Highly Skilled Teachers

The Andrews Labor Government is partnering with three Victorian universities to provide real-life work experience to student teachers in the Wimmera, delivering a strong pipeline of skilled workers.
Minister for Education James Merlino today announced a landmark agreement has been secured with Deakin, Federation and Australian Catholic Universities to provide an extra 60 placement opportunities for pre-service teachers in Horsham.
The program will provide placements of up to 25 days and builds on the partner universities’ work to date in Horsham – expanding the number of available placements and increasing focus on specialist schools and inclusive education.
A new Teaching Academy of Professional Practice will also be formed under the agreement to support schools hosting pre-service teachers – with Federation University in Horsham to become a hub for the school and university partners. ....

Deakin Uni To Create World-Leading Clean Energy Products

Victoria will cement its leadership in clean, green energy under a new $34.9 million plan to create a world-first battery facility and a regional hydrogen hub, funded by the Andrews Labor Government.
Minister for Higher Education Gayle Tierney and Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change Lily D’Ambrosio today visited Deakin University to launch the projects.
They include the Battery Technology Research and Innovation Hub 2.0 (BatTRI-Hub 2.0) at Deakin’s Burwood campus. It features a testing lab and pilot production line to research and manufacture advanced batteries using lithium and sodium.
The products will be developed to meet bespoke requirements in defence, agriculture, disaster zones and health settings. It will enhance the work of BatTRI-Hub 1.0 which has already created valuable products for industry, including Toyota in Japan. ....

Deakin builds clean energy future with two major infrastructure and research projects

Deakin University will provide a massive boost to Victoria’s green economy with the announcement today of two new multi-million dollar projects related to advanced battery research and the development of hydrogen fuel technology.
The Hon. Gayle Tierney MP, Minister for Training, Skills and Higher Education, and the Hon. Lily D’Ambrosio MP, Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change and the Minister for Solar Homes, joined Deakin University Vice-Chancellor Professor Iain Martin for the announcement at Deakin’s Melbourne Burwood campus this morning.
The two new infrastructure and research projects – BatTRI-HUB 2.0 and the Hycel Technology Hub – will initially create around 200 direct jobs in construction, manufacturing and research, over the life of the projects (2021-2025). ....
