June 4, 2021 · 0 Comments By Sam Odrowski The Terms of Reference for Orangeville’s Men’s Homelessness Committee were approved at Monday (May 31) night’s regular Council meeting. The committee will be comprised of Mayor Sandy Brown, two councillors and six members of the public. During this week’s Council meeting, Coun. Debbie Sherwood put her name forward to be on the Council. She said she had the opportunity to speak with Pastor Matthew McLean who runs the Good Friends Church, which offers a community meal program and homeless supports, as well as Terrance Carter of Carters Law, who has been a large advocate for men’s homelessness locally, and she’s interested in addressing the issue. ....
April 29, 2021 · 0 Comments By Sam Odrowski While Orangeville has emergency shelter services for youth, women and children, the issue of men’s homelessness has not yet been addressed. To take the first step in developing a solution to the problem, Mayor Sandy Brown brought forward a motion at a Council meeting on Monday (April 26) to form a Mayor’s Special Committee on Men’s Homelessness, with the goal of creating a men’s emergency shelter. A delegation in support of the committee from Terrance Carter of Carters Law and Matthew McLean, Pastor of the Good Friends Fellowship Church, which operates a daily community meal program called the Lighthouse, have both seen the issue of men’s homeless impacting Orangeville firsthand and shared their stories. ....
April 15, 2021 · 0 Comments By Sam Odrowski Safety measures are being taken by the Town of Orangeville along Oak Ridge Drive after an impaired driver crashed into a resident’s front lawn last month. A joint motion brought forward by Coun. Lisa Post and Coun. Todd Taylor at a Council meeting on April 12 was passed, which will see a portable speed sign installed at Oak Ridge Drive between Island Lake Public School and the street’s hairpin bend. A sign is also to be installed; warning of the bend on the north side of the road near Graham Crescent. “There was an incident that happened on Oak Ridge Drive and Coun. Taylor and I went and spoke with a lot of the residents in the area,” Coun.
