Shooting victim who didn't appear for suspect's trial arrested on unrelated warrants | WHOP 1230 AM

The alleged victim who didn’t appear in court and delayed the first trial in Christian Circuit Court since the pandemic began last week is in jail on unrelated warrants.
Hopkinsville police on Monday served 39-year old Derrell Bateman of Hopkinsville with warrants for contempt of court relating to child support arrears and for failure to appear in court to face misdemeanor theft charges.
Bateman was shot at East Second and Vine Street in February of last year and Travis Mayes is charged with first-degree assault in connection with the incident. His trial, which had been scheduled for May 3, was postponed until September 20 when Bateman didn’t appear in court. ....

The first jury trial scheduled to take place in Christian County in around a year was postponed Monday morning after the victim in the case did not appear in court despite being allegedly subpoenaed. Jury trials were postponed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Christian County Circuit Court Judge John Atkins was scheduled to hear the case of Travis Mayes, 39, who is accused of a South Vine Street shooting case in February 2020, which involved the shooting and injury of Derrell Bateman.
As the court was meant to begin jury selection for the trial Monday morning, Bateman failed to appear in court, forcing Atkins to postpone the trial for another three months. ....

University Heights swept an 8th district series with Christian County as the Blazers downed the Colonels 65-45 Saturday night in Blazer Gym. UHA led 19-9 at the end of the first quarter and never looked back. The Blazers were led in scoring by DJ Quarles with 14, KJ Crump added 12 and Will Bryan had 10 as UHA improved to 7-7 overall and 2-0 in the 8th district. The Blazers are back in action Monday night at McCracken County.
Christian County had only one double figure scorer as Derrell Bateman had 14 points as the Colonels fell to 0-7/0-2 in district play.
