Language row: Congress seeks strict action against hospital

The Congress on Sunday demanded strict action against the authorities of a Delhi hospital for issuing a circular that asked the nursing staff not to speak in Malayalam while at work, terming it unconstitutional and denial of fundamental rights.
Congress leaders led by Rahul Gandhi hit out at the authorities at the Delhi Government-run GB Pant Hospital and said language discrimination should end.The hospital has revoked the controversial order.
“Malayalam is as Indian as any other Indian language. Stop language discrimination,” Rahul said.
Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also shared concerns and posted the order of the Govind Ballabh Pant Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research that asked the nursing staff to communicate only in Hindi and English, warning them of serious action if they did not follow the instructions. ....

Coronavirus: Free Vaccine In Delhi To All Above 18, Says Arvind Kejriwal


Arvind Kejriwal urged vaccine-makers to bring down the prices for state governments.
New Delhi:
Delhi will vaccinate all above 18 free of cost, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said today. Vaccinations will be open to all adults from Saturday.
Delhi government has decided to provide free vaccines to everyone above 18 years of age. Today we have given the approval for the purchase of 1.34 crore vaccines. We will make an effort to ensure that it is purchased soon and administered at the earliest to people, Mr Kejriwal announced.
This is likely to be only for Delhi Government-run hospitals. Those going to private hospitals will still have to pay for their Covid shots. ....

New Delhi, April 3 (IANS) Amid the surge in Covid-19 cases in the national capital and the Delhi government pushing for a mass level vaccination drive, several Delhi Government-run hospitals have reported a staff crunch. The hospital authorities said that after the vaccination for people of 45 years and above started (from April 1), more people are coming forward for the vaccine jabs and they would need more staff.
