Qualcomm has made a couple of announcements with regards to always on, always connected Windows PCs and Chromebooks. During the Qualcomm Snapdragon Compute: Scaling the Mobile Compute Ecosystem Virtual Announcement, the company took the wraps off a new processor, the Snapdragon 7c Gen 2, and a new Snapdragon Developer Kit for Windows 10 on Arm PCs. Qualcomm s new Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 is, as per its name, a revamped Snapdragon 7c. The original Snapdragon 7c was part of Qualcomm’s 2019 tech summit and was introduced alongside the more powerful Snapdragon 8c and 8cx at the time. Unfortunately, the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 isn t a major step up from its predecessor. It seems to merely take advantage of the yield and binning improvements to deliver a speed bump to the CPU cores. Specifically, the two Cortex-A76 cores in the Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 SoC are being bumped from 2.4GHz to 2.55GHz max. ....

The successor, as you probably guessed, to late-2019’s Snapdragon 7c, this second-generation chipset keeps the multi-day battery life and embedded LTE, but throws in more performance and a boost to multimedia. The octa-core Kryo 468 CPU now runs at up to 2.55 GHz, and is paired with an Adreno GPU and Spectra 255 image signal processor. Figure on up to QHD 2560 x 1440 at 60Hz external display support, while Qualcomm’s 5th Gen Hexagon 692 AI engine delivers over 5 TOPS of performance. ....
May 24th, 2021 Qualcomm In late 2019, Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 8c and 7c, a pair of affordable chips for always-on Windows 10 PCs and Chromebooks. Today, the company is updating the latter of those two SoCs to improve performance. The Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 features a Kyro CPU that can achieve clock speeds of up to 2.55GHz. The company claims it delivers 10 percent faster performance than most competing platforms. Qualcomm likely has processors from Intel s Gemini Lake family in mind here. The company also claims the 7c Gen 2 can deliver up to two times the battery life of its competitors. Outside of the faster CPU, the 7c Gen 2 is more or less the same chip Qualcomm announced in 2019. It features an Adreno 618 GPU and Snapdragon X15 LTE modem. The latter allows the 7c Gen 2 to hit theoretical download speeds of 800 Mbps.
