Three environmental and waste management experts have called for a collective effort by city authorities, waste management companies and the citizenry to help keep Accra clean.
According to them, when all the separate components play their roles effectively, it will make Accra the cleanest city in Africa.
The experts are the Chief Resilience and Sustainability Advisor to the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of Accra, Mr Desmond Appiah; a researcher and a consultant with the Africa Sanitation and Environmental Consult (AFESC), Dr Yahaya Yakubu; and an environmental and public health consultant, Dr Kofi Sekyere Boateng. ....

Air pollution in the capital city is rising at an alarming rate and it can be detrimental to the health of the public, a senior lecturer at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) has said.
Mr Kofi Amegah, who is also a member of the Public Health Research Group of the Department of Biomedical Sciences, UCC, said street vendors, police, traffic wardens, toll booth and fuel station attendants and commuters were among the most vulnerable groups of persons that could suffer respiratory and cardiovascular diseases due to the rise in air pollution in Accra. ....

The Chief Executive of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Mohammed Adjei Sowah,has called for closer collaboration between the police and other stakeholders in the road safety sector to help address the risks that confront road users.
According to him, these issues, if properly addressed, would help deal with concerns about safety on our roads and reduce road traffic collisions as well as serious injuries in the city and the country at large to the barest minimum. 
The AMA Chief Executive made this call on Wednesday when he hosted a virtual meeting with members of the Accra Road Safety Council to brainstorm on finding solutions to challenging road safety matters in the city of Accra and beyond. ....
