'Major' gas leak under control | Dandenong Star Journal

A “major” natural-gas leak that ‘bubbled’ from the ground in a Dandenong South industrial zone has been controlled without injury.
Fire crews discovered the potentially explosive leak near the corner of Mickle Street and Hammond Road about 2.27pm on Tuesday 20 July after a strong smell of gas was reported to triple-0.
“Upon arriving on scene, crews discovered a major gas leak,” an FRV spokesperson said.
Eight FRV fireys, with CFA and Victoria Police members, worked to make the scene safe for more than an hour.
The leak was deemed “under control” at 3.30pm.
A gas company excavated a section of the road and isolated the gas leak. ....

Lockdown extended to battle growing outbreak
VICTORIA’S lockdown has been extended by a week to help combat the current outbreak of COVID-19.
On 20 July, 13 new locally acquired cases of coronavirus were confirmed. Of those, 12 were linked to the current outbreak and one was under investigation. There were 96 active cases.
There is one active COVID-19 case among residents from the Kingston local government area.
The Coles at Westfield Southland in Cheltenham has been listed as a tier two exposure site. Anyone who went to the supermarket on 12 July between 5.45pm and 6.45pm was asked to get tested and isolate until they received a negative result. A positive COVID-19 case attended the shop. ....

A 31-year-old man has been arrested by police after a three-car crash on Heatherton Road, Noble Park.
Two men were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after the crash about 7am on Wednesday 21 July.
Greater Dandenong Highway Patrol officers say a VW Passat allegedly was making a right turn into Briggs Street when it was struck from behind by a red Camry.
The impact shunted the Passat into the path of an oncoming Honda sedan, which was travelling west on Heatherton Road.
The Camry driver allegedly stopped near the crash and ran from the scene.
The man was arrested at a Wantirna address shortly after, police say. ....

Three teenagers from the South East have been arrested after an alleged high-speed pursuit in a stolen car spanning about 150 kilometres in little over an hour.
A 14-year-old Dandenong boy, a 17-year-old Cranbourne boy and a 17-year-old Cranbourne West girl were arrested in Fyansford, west Geelong about 11.15am on Wednesday 21 July.
It was about one hour after they were spotted allegedly climbing out of a stolen Audi into a stolen blue BMW sedan in Hastings just after 10am.
In Hastings, the BMW driver allegedly refused to stop during an attempted police intercept and sped off.
It travelled on the Monash Freeway, the West Gate Freeway and then onto the Princes Freeway, police say. ....
