POCKLINGTON School has introduced a new Sports Scholars programme and is now inviting applications in readiness for the start of the programme in September. This specially developed programme is designed to nurture and support the sports men and women of the future. David Byas, one of the leaders of the programme, said: Our new sports scholars programme is a fantastic opportunity for young people and will enhance the already excellent provision Pocklington offers. 17 December 2020 There is no doubt that Mark Ramprakash had an affinity with Yorkshire. His debut came against the White Rose county, as did his first century and, more famously and memorably, so did his 100th. Paul Dyson looks back at the relationship between the county and the most watchable batsmen of his era. On August 24th and 25th, 1995, i.e. 25 years ago, Mark Ramprakash scored what was then the highest innings of his career. It was at Headingley against a Yorkshire attack including Peter Hartley, Chris Silverwood, Craig White, Mark Robinson and Richard Stemp and totalled 235 runs. It was his third double-century of the season, came from 426 balls and included one six and 31 fours. It equalled the record (since beaten) for a visiting batsman against Yorkshire in Leeds and was praised by Wisden as being a ‘high-class’ innings. He enabled Middlesex to score 516 for nine declared and win by an innings. ....
Lehmann in fitness battle Darren Lehmann should know later today if he will be fit to play for Yorkshire in tomorrow s Championship encounter with Derbyshire at Derby after a scan on his stiff back. The Australian has been restricted in his movements over the past few days and was rested from Sunday s game against Somerset. Director of cricket, David Byas, said: We don t think that Darren has got a serious problem but because it has gone on for some time now it was felt it would be wise for him to have a scan. The stiffness in Lehmann s back may be the result of the extensive travel he has done over the past few months. Since arriving at Headingley just before the start of the season, he has travelled to Zimbabwe as well as returning home for Australia s two Test matches against Sri Lanka. ....
