Indonesia and Taiwan to discuss new migrant worker policy again


TAIPEI, March 12 (Bernama): Indonesia and Taiwan are scheduled to hold a fresh round of talks later this month in a bid to resolve a dispute over the latter s pending policy on placement fees for its migrant workers, Minister of Labour Hsu Ming-chun has announced, according to the Central News Agency.
Hsu said the discussions will follow similar talks last December, which failed to reach a resolution on Indonesia s new policy that will require Taiwanese employers to pay part of the placement fees for Indonesian migrant workers.
Another virtual meeting will be held before the end of this month, Hsu told reporters in Taipei, when asked about the issue. ....

Two companies will soon be able to apply for formal licenses for an experimental money transfer service that they were permitted to set up in 2019 mainly to accommodate migrant workers, according to the county s financial regulator.
When the amended Act Governing Electronic Payment Institutions takes effect in July, institutions other than banks will be permitted to apply for licenses to provide outward remittance services, the Financial Technology Development and Innovation Center (FTDIC) said recently.
This will include two companies Welldone Co. in Taipei and startup EMQ Ltd. in Hong Kong that received permission from Taiwan s Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) in January 2019 to offer money transfer services on ....
