A heavily tattooed man with death before dishonour marked on his stomach and his friend who sparked a pub brawl during a birthday party which left a man unconscious were offended after overhearing a joke about neck ink.
Cameron Fox, 24, and Brayden Downie, 24, repeatedly slapped and punched the victim at the Delaney Hotel on Darby St, Cooks Hill in Newcastle at about 7.30pm on June 13, 2020.
The victim was with family and friends when someone made a comment in jest about neck tattoos, court documents revealed.
Fox, who has roses tattooed on his neck, and snakes, skulls and a gun on his body, and Downie had been drinking at a nearby table and overheard the joke.

A man has been charged after property alleged to be stolen was found at a Lake Macquarie home yesterday.
Officers have been investigating alleged break-ins at homes and theft from vehicles in the area between January 25 and February 4 this year.
Police attended a home on Quigley Road, Bolton Point, about 4pm yesterday.
They spoke to a 27-year-old man in the shed, where a large amount of property – including bicycles, fishing equipment and power tools was found.
The man was arrested and taken to Toronto Police Station, where he was charged with enter building/land with intent to commit indictable offence, and four counts of goods suspected stolen in/on premises.
