LCC paying for two variable loans for the now-defunct Dundalk Town Council By Ruth O Connell It s been revealed that Louth County Council (LCC) has been left paying for two variable loans originally obtained by the now defunct Dundalk Town Council. They were taken out by the local authority - which was abolished in 2014, in 2009 and 2012 to construct a number of affordable houses. The 2019 Annual Financial Statement auditors report says as bridging loans were not raised, only the interest portion of the loans was recoupable from the Department of the Environment and Local Government. Sinn Féin s Tomas Sharkey says half of the 4,900 social housing applicants are based in the district, and he claims that single men in particular will be most badly affected because of a lack of suitable accommodation. Cllr Kelly raised the issues around the maintenance and security of the astroturf pitch at the Oldbridge Estate during the Dundalk Municipal District monthly meeting.
