Crowds gather for STAND protest opposing 4,000 new homes north of Dorchester

Prior to the protest, organised by members of STAND (Save the Area North of Dorchester), a petition against the development received more than 5,000 signatures, which will be debated by Dorset councillors in April next year.

However, chairman of STAND Jane Ashdown said the council s debate should be moved forward and taken more seriously because of the size of the proposed development and the impact it could have on the environment.
She said: The development is the equivalent of two Poundburys which could have a huge environmental impact. We estimate each of the 4,000 new homes will have at least one car, which will add congestion and pollution to the area. ....

West Dorset MP Chris Loder starts petition against north of Dorchester housing estate

AN ONLINE petition against a huge 4,000 home development proposed on green field land north of Dorchester has been launched by an MP.
MP for West Dorset, Chris Loder, has launched the online petition which urges residents to voice their opposition to the Norchester North of Dorchester development, which has also been met by fierce opposition from locals and a campaign group, STAND (Save the Area North of Dorchester.)
Mr Loder said: “This proposal will be devastating for the beauty and functionality of our county town. We need to modest development to thrive, but this proposal offers little back to the community.” ....

DORCHESTER’S ‘townscape’ could soon be changing with proposals to convert more offices into homes.
Town and unitary councillor for the county town, Andy Canning, says the trend, partly brought about by the pandemic, could have consequences for the town centre economy, parking and congestion.
He is asking for changes in the Local Plan, currently being reviewed, to reflect this.

Second council opposes 3,500-home north Dorchester development

Proposed north of Dorchester development would be a disaster
ANOTHER council is opposing plans for 3,500 new homes north of Dorchester.
Stinsford parish council has added its voice to Dorchester Town Council, the protest group STAND and West Dorset MP Chris Loder in opposing the development being put forward by Dorset Council.
It is demanding that the consultation process, which it says is flawed, should be repeated instead of ending tomorrow.

The parish says the majority of the land for the new homes falls within its area.
A statement from the parish says the Dorset Council local plan review proposals suffer ‘serious deficiencies’ in its evidence base making it all but impossible for residents to enter into an informed and meaningful consultation. ....
