Average monthly take-home pay in March rose 2.51 percent from a year earlier to NT$43,259, while total wages, including overtime and performance-based compensation, grew 2.49 percent to NT$48,897, the Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics (DGBAS) said yesterday.
The pay increase came after some sectors recovered from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, while others remain affected, the agency said.
Recovery is evident for makers of electronic components and metal products, as well as construction firms and property brokers, DGBAS Deputy Director Chen Hui-hsin (陳惠欣) told a news conference in Taipei. ....

The media reported this week on another government stimulus program to make the birth rate rise. Premier Su Tseng-chang (蘇貞昌) said that the budget for the government’s programs would reach NT$85 billion (US$3.05 billion) by 2023, and said that the government’s monthly subsidy for child support would rise from NT$3,500 to NT$5,000.
These measures are a well-meaning attempt to address Taiwan’s globally low fertility and birth rates, but they are rather like poking a heart attack victim with a stick in the hope of reviving him. ....

The Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) has approved SinoPac Securities Co’s (永豐金證券) application to launch a sandbox experiment that utilizes robot-advisers to provide dollar-cost averaging investment programs, the commission said on Tuesday.
Taiwan’s ninth fintech sandbox experiment would begin within three months, FSC Department of Planning Director-General Lin Chih-hsien (林志憲) said.
SinoPac Securities would collaborate with Alpha Fintech Co’s (阿爾發金融科技) securities investment consulting unit, which offers automated, algorithm-driven financial planning services, the commission said. ....
