Takla Landing member recognized by RCMP for bravery

A First Nations man in northern B.C. has been commended for his bravery after assisting RCMP in the arrest of an armed individual at Takla Landing more than two years ago.

On Jan. 29, 2019, the Takla Nation public works staff member helped police with a call requesting assistance near a school where a man was discharging a rifle.

Attempts by police to convince the man to put down the firearm were not successful, and the individual reportedly, in turn, told police to shoot him.

“West’s courage in assisting our members in the apprehension of an armed individual aided in bringing this situation to a successful conclusion,” RCMP Deputy Commissioner Jennifer Strachan said in a release. ....

- Robert John Eaton (born 1971) was sentenced to 16 days in jail and assessed a $100 victim surcharge for breaching probation. Eaton was in custody for one day prior to sentencing.
- Lucas Raymond Lizotte (born 1989) was sentenced to time served and assessed a $100 victim surcharge for breaching probation. Lizotte was in custody for one day following his arrest.
- Jake Toby Patrick (born 1994) was sentenced to 14 days in jail for breaching probation and to nine days in jail and ordered to pay $341.41 restitution for mischief $5,000 or under. Patrick was also sentenced to one year probation on one count each of assault by choking and assault, committed in Prince George and theft under $5,000, committed in Vanderhoof and was issued a 10-year firearms prohibition and ordered to provide a DNA sample on the choking count. Patrick was in custody for 63 days prior to sentencing. ....
