Downtown mural embraces Ionia s rich history

IONIA For years, Ionia Mayor Dan Balice has wanted artwork to decorate and brighten downtown. The first step in his dream came to fruition on Tuesday. 
Balice and other civic leaders dedicated a 254-foot-wide mural on the eastern wall of the Ionia Theatre Tuesday, July 13.
The mural depicts the city s extensive history dating to the 1800s and features a train from the Grand Trunk Railroad Depot, the Hotel Bailey, and Ionia Marathon.
Westphalia artist Daniel Arens created the piece, painting on aluminum panels which were fixed to the theater s exterior. The mural also features a mouse hidden in the artwork, enticing people to search.  ....
