Vice-Chancellor M. Krishnan salutes the national flag at Republic Day celebration at Madurai Kamaraj University on Tuesday.

Vice-Chancellor M. Krishnan hoisted the national flag at Madurai Kamaraj University on Tuesday and delivered the Republic Day speech. He insisted that everyone should be patriotic and should abide by the Constitution. Syndicate members, professors and administrative staff participated in the event.
At Madurai Kamaraj University College, Principal B. George unfurled the national flag and addressed the gathering. He highlighted the efforts of freedom fighters during the Independence struggle.
Patriotic fervour marked the Republic Day celebration at Lady Doak College. Principal and Secretary Christianna Singh welcomed the gathering. However, recently the substance has been under the scrutiny of food safety officials, for the spice producers have been using sulphur rampantly to fumigate it, so that it can be preserved for a longer period.
This has earned the wrath of health officials who raided multiple locations recently, resulting in its seizure in few places. Although it has been a year since the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) prohibited the use of sulphur in fumigation, the practice continues unabated among the traders. ....
