The Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service has tested the equivalent of the population of Hervey Bay and quarantined an average of 38 people a week since the pandemic started.
Raw numbers reveal the scale of the Wide Bay HHS’s COVID-19 response.
Since the Australia’s first case was confirmed on 25 January 2020, Queensland has recorded 1,793 cases. Of these, 39 have been recorded in the Wide Bay region and all have since recovered.
“Around 80 per cent of Queensland’s cases have been acquired overseas, with a large portion detected in quarantine, and this is reflective in the Wide Bay HHS region,” Queensland Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young said. ....

West Moreton Health has tested almost 50 per cent of its population and quarantined enough people to fill the Ipswich Civic Centre seven times over since the pandemic started.

Mask wearing in South East Queensland continued for another week
Mask wearing in South East Queensland will continue for another seven days as a precaution following new cases in the state.
Queensland’s Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young said to mitigate the risk of further incursions popping up across the state, masks will continue until Friday 6 August.
“It’s so important to wear a mask, and I genuinely believe they are stopping the spread into the community,” she said.
“They do more than just protect you. They also remind you to be a bit cautious; to keep 1.5m away from another person; to get tested if you have symptoms. ....

Queensland’s Deputy Premier Steven Miles has announced a new COVID-19 case is the source of a Qantas flight attendant s infection.
A Qantas flight attendant tested positive to the highly infectious Delta strain after making contact with a positive case from New South Wales.
Queensland’s Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young revealed one of the recorded cases was a man who travelled illegally from Sydney to Ballina and then to Brisbane so was therefore included in NSW’s COVID figures. ....
