COLOMBO (News 1st); Rear Admiral Priyantha Perera assumed duties as the Commander Northern Naval Area at the Command Headquarters on Friday (30th April 2021).
He held office as Commander Southern Naval Area prior to taking over the command of Northern Naval Area.
The incoming Area Commander was received to the Northern Naval Command according him a Guard of Honour in compliance with time honoured naval traditions.
Thereupon, the Deputy Area Commander, Commodore JP Premarathna who oversaw duties as Acting Commander Northern Naval Area formally handed over the duties to Rear Admiral Priyantha Perera. ....

COLOMBO (News 1st); Rear Admiral Prasanna Hewage assumed office as Commander Southern Naval Area at the Command Headquarters on Tuesday (27
th April 2021).
Prior to taking over duties in the new appointment, Rear Admiral Prasanna Hewage was at Navy Headquarters, discharging duties as Director-General Administration.
The incoming Commander was warmly received to the Southern Naval Command, according a guard of honour in compliance with naval traditions. Meanwhile, his predecessor, Rear Admiral Priyantha Perera, relinquished his duties upon handing over them to the newly appointed Commander of Southern Naval Area. ....

Navy-constructed Lankagama Nilwella Bridge vested with the public

Colombo (News 1st); The Navy-constructed Lankagama Nilwella Bridge was ceremonially declared open on 10
th April 2021. The opening ceremony was held under the patronage of the Governor of Southern Province, Dr. Willy Gamage and with the attendance of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne. The new bridge connects the villages of Lankagama and Nilwella of Neluwa in the Southern Province.
Going in line with the National Policy Framework – Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour by His Excellency the President, Gotabaya Rajapaksa, initiatives were made to go ahead with this development project, fulfilling a long felt need of Lankagama and Nilwella residents as they faced hardships when crossing the Gin River through a risky and difficult means. The construction work of the bridge, which is 84 meters long and 1.8 meters wide, commenced by Navy on 28th July 2020 and was able to complete its construction in short period of time.
