PH, Japan to hold virtual high-level infra meeting

High-level Philippine and Japanese officials are set meet to virtually this week to discuss infrastructure development and economic cooperation between the two nations.
On July 28, Finance Secretary Carlos G. Dominguez III and Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Karl Kendrick T. Chua will meet with Izumi Hiroto, Special Advisor to the Prime Minister, who will represent the Japanese government.
This will be the second time that the Japan-Philippines Joint Committee on Infrastructure Development and Economic Cooperation will be convened online, the Department of Finance said.
The discussions will focus on the status of the Japan-funded projects under the “Build, Build, Build” program and Japan’s assistance to the Philippines’ COVID-19 response efforts, including its ongoing mass vaccination program. ....

JICA upbeat on Plaridel Bypass as CL economy booster

The Japanese government has welcomed the opening of the Arterial Road Bypass Project (ARBP) or Plaridel Bypass Project Phase III in Bulacan that is expected to alleviate traffic congestion and boost economic activities in the region amid the COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) pandemic.

Funded by the Overseas Development Assistance under the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Y9.399 billion project is the third phase of a road project bypassing the Philippine-Japan Friendship Highway that also covered the construction of two additional lanes of the Angat Bridge and widening of underpass, drainage, and other related works. ....

Construction of mountain tunnel starts in July

THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced that the first long-distance mountain tunnel in the Philippines with an approximate length of 2.3 kilometers (km) will be constructed in Davao City this July.
In a press release, DPWH said it is about to roll out the construction of two 2.3-km tunnel, which corresponds to the central portion of the Davao City Bypass Construction Project in Southern Mindanao financed by Official Development Assistance (ODA) of the Government of Japan through Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica).
Public Works Secretary Mark Villar said that essential machinery has started to arrive in the Philippines for the road tunnel construction, which is expected to develop Filipino skilled workers with new technological know-how. ....
