Brunei Darussalam has seen an increase in the number of cases referred to the Child Development Centre (CDC) over a decade in 2020 (766 cases), compared to 2010 (400 cases).
Meanwhile, there were 218 reported autism cases in 2020 compared to 36 in 2011. In early March this year, CDC diagnosed 38 new autism cases.
This was stated by Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar during the official opening of the Child Development Centre (CDC), in Kiarong yesterday.
“Over the past 20 years, the number of children who have received and are still undergoing treatment at CDC has exceeded 7,000. Out of the figure, some 2,300 exhibit autistic traits, 430 with celebral palsy, 400 with Down Syndrome, and 200 with hearing impairment.” ....

Braving flood waters to deliver assistance » Borneo Bulletin Online

The trials and tribulations of sending food supply to flood stricken victims in the rural part of Tutong and Belait districts recently was shared by members of the Four Wheel Drive Association of Brunei Darussalam.
The association delivered basic food necessities to 40 flood victims in Kuala Ungar on Sunday, which is about one-and-a-half hour drive from town.
According to a member, Vance Lee, it was a nerve-wrecking experience with flood waters reaching waist level recorded. One of the vehicles was trapped inside a drain, taking the convoy an hour to tow it, restart the engine and continue their journey. ....

Buddhist charity serves up full Christmas dinner for Strathcona tent city residents

VANCOUVER
Volunteers with the Lotus Light Charity Society were up before dawn on Christmas morning to start preparing a meal for people living in tents in Strathcona Park.
They made roast turkey and ham, mashed potatoes, gravy and many of the other traditional holiday fixings.
“We have prepared a special meal for those people in need in our Downtown East Side community. We’ve prepared 300 meals,” said Sean Ouyang, one of the volunteers.
The society has been using the kitchen at an East Hastings Street temple to feed people in need regularly since the start of the pandemic, but this is the first time they’ve attempted a Christmas dinner, much to the delight of people in the park. ....
