KARACHI: Three senior doctors of the city, including a former director general of health, lost their lives during the past two days due to complications caused by Covid-19, raising alarm among healthcare providers.
So far, 46 doctors have died of the coronavirus in Sindh. Of them, 26 doctors were based in Karachi.
Sources said Dr Waseemuddin was a paediatrician, Prof Abdul Sattar Korai, the former DG-Health, Sindh, an ENT specialist and Dr Tahir Amin Chaudhary who had retired from the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre as chief anaesthetist. ....

COVID-19: 10 deaths reported in Islamabad

Islamabad: The federal capital witnessed the highest single-day count of casualties, 10, due to COVID-19 since the outbreak of the virus in February this year.
The positivity rate, however, is still 4.5 per cent-5.5 per cent as compared to the national positivity of 8 per cent.
According to the District Health Officer (DHO) of Islamabad, Dr Zaeem Zia the capital had earlier reported eight deaths in a day twice on November 21 and November 26, seven deaths were also reported on June 16 but the figure had never reached 10.
He however, informed most of the patients who died were in critical condition and on ventilators.
Out of the ten patients, five alone died at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), one reported from the Isolation Hospital and Infectious Treatment Centre (IHITC) and one each from four other hospitals, said the DHO. ....

KARACHI: Three senior doctors were among 23 people who died due to the coronavirus infection in Sindh between Thursday and Friday, raising the Covid-19 death toll in the province to 3,132, said provincial health officials on Friday.
They added that 873 patients of Covid-19 were under treatment at various health facilities in the province, of whom the condition of 777 was serious while 94 were on life support.
Officials said a former director general (DG) health of Sindh, a retired anaesthetist of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) and a senior paediatrician were the three senior doctors who passed away due to COVID-19 and its complications at different health facilities in the province. ....

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s daily coronavirus cases topped 3,000 for the second consecutive day on Friday, while 50 people lost their lives, as the country continues to grapple with a high test positivity ratio 7.15 per cent and a rising number of critical patients.
According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), active infections stood at 44,582 after 3,047 more people tested positive for the virus in the 24 hours leading to Friday.
Of the 50 Covid patients who died, 47 were under treatment in hospital. Of the victims, 28 patients died on ventilators. The most deaths had occurred in Punjab, followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh. ....

Three senior doctors in Karachi have died of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, it was reported on Friday. The number of doctors in the province who succumbed to the virus has reached 45.
One of the doctors was Dr Tahir Amin Chaudhry, a retired chief anaesthetist at Karachi’s Jinnah Hospital, confirmed JPMC Executive Director Dr Seemin Jamali. ....
