The Health department closed a palliative care hospital at Vallachira, near Thrissur, on Wednesday after three COVID patients died at the hospital.
In an inquiry at the Santhi Bhavan Palliative Care Hospital, the health department team found that there was no full-time doctor for attending to the critically ill patients. Of the 23 patients, 11 had tested positive for COVID-19.
“I got a complaint three days ago from a nurse in Kollam. Her father died in the palliative care hospital recently. The body was shifted to Kollam saying he was COVID negative. The body was kept openly for the public to pay homage. As they couldn’t produce COVID negative certificate at the time of cremation, the body was taken to a private hospital and he was tested ....

The COVID test positivity rate (TPR) is remaining high in Thrissur. On Monday, the district recorded a TPR of 33.07%. As many as 3,280 fresh cases were reported while 2,076 patients recovered from the disease.
Seven local bodies in the district had TPR higher than 50%.
Elavally panchayat has the highest test positivity rate of 82.67 %. The other local bodies with high TPR are Mullassery (52.79%); Chazur (59.55%); Puthenchira (67.21%); Porkulam (53.13%); Engandiyur (50%) and Venkidangu (55%).
Active cases in the district is 51,126 and 91 people from the district are undergoing treatment in other districts. So far, 1,84,512 COVID-19 cases were reported from the district and 1,32,435 people have recovered. ....

The district recorded 3,567 fresh COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, while 1,686 people recovered from the disease. The test positivity rate (TPR) stood at 29.34% even as most parts of the district remained containment zones.
With this, the active cases in the district touched 39,520 and 106 people from the district were undergoing treatment in various other districts. So far 1,62,193 COVID-19 cases had reported from Thrissur, while 1,21,856 people made recovery since the beginning of the pandemic. ....

Palakkad: The mortal remains of Kongad MLA K V Vijayadas who passed away on Monday was brought to his residence at Kakkathodu in Elappully here. The body was kept for public homage in the morning.
Later, the body will be shifted to nearby LP School for public homage for an hour and then to CPM district committee office in Palakkad. It is learnt that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will arrive here. The CM will reach Palakkad in helicopter after the assembly session. ....
