'I'm frustrated, I'm scared': COVID outbreak at Pine Grove


Sutherland-Kayseas has been on remand since January 2020. She’s currently facing murder charges in connection to the death of Sheena Marie Billete in La Ronge, as well as Dylan Chretien in Prince Albert. While the charges are very serious, Sutherland-Kayseas has not been convicted and has had at least one pre-trial date pushed back due to COVID.
“I’m really worried and even through written correspondence, they’ve sent my letters back to me,” Kayseas said. “We don’t have any way of communicating and it’s frustrating and it’s scary because I don’t know what’s going on. Pine Grove can be a dangerous place.” ....

Government adds Sask. first responders to vaccine plan, including police and firefighters


Regina police confirm 140 officers received vaccine
After the government s announcement Monday afternoon, Regina Police Service spokesperson Elizabeth Popowich sent a news release indicating 115 officers received a dose Saturday evening and 25 on Sunday.
She said a further 60 front-line officers will receive a dose once supply allows.
Front-line members are those uniformed police officers who are responding to COVID and emergency calls in the community, and whose work necessitates direct contact with the public in dynamic situations, Popowich said.
Health Minister Paul Merriman told the media on Monday afternoon that the government reached out to the first responders on Saturday because of a lull in the drive-thru in Regina. ....

As of Dec. 15, six offenders at the Regina jail were classified as positive with COVID-19. In Saskatoon, there were 86 staff and inmates positive. There are 23 positive cases at the Prince Albert Correctional Centre and three at the Pine Grove Correctional Centre.
Kilburn Hall, a youth facility in Saskatoon, has two inmates and one staff positive.
The union that speaks for correctional workers is frustrated by the lack of widespread testing at the jails, and the response from the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) and Corrections, Policing and Public Safety.
On Dec. 11, Saskatchewan Government Employees Union (SGEU) sent a letter to the health authority asking that all inmates and staff in provincial correctional centres be allowed to volunteer for testing. ....
