Champion Netballer joins Shooting Australia in Athlete Wellbeing role
Former Australian Netball representative Jane Altschwager has been appointed Shooting Australia’s Athlete Wellbeing and Engagement Lead where she will work with National Squad members in Rifle, Pistol and Shotgun disciplines.
Altschwager made seven National Team appearances and won two Commonwealth Bank Trophy championships with the Sydney Swifts during her decorated Netball career.
She also captained the Hunter Jaegers and Central Pulse and played for the Adelaide Thunderbirds before transitioning to the SANFL Women’s League where she played two seasons with North Adelaide in 2018 and 2019.
Shooting Australia Chief Executive Officer, Luke van Kempen, said Altschwager’s appointment comes at a time of increased focus on athlete wellbeing. ....

Mental health funding inspires hope for breakthroughs


A pilot program will be developed for young women struggling with mental health issues.
UniSA researchers have won $100,000 to fund key mental health projects to help young women, veterans, and stroke patients, who often struggle with depression.
The Breakthrough Mental Health Research Foundation (Breakthrough) has partnered with UniSA to investigate mental health triggers in these areas and look at the most effective treatments.
Professor Nicole Moulding, Dr Michele Jarldorn and Dr Jane Andrew will use the funds to develop a pilot mental health peer support program for young women at risk.
Helping veterans who are struggling with mental health issues will be the focus of another project involving Dr Dannielle Post, Professor Gaynor Parfitt, Dr Katherine Baldock and Dr Kate Gunn. ....
