Tiruppur district received only 3,900 anti-COVID-19 vaccine doses on Saturday as the vaccination drive for 18-44 years age group was deferred due to vaccine shortage, according to officials in the Health Department.
The 3,900 Covishield doses that arrived at the Office of the Deputy Director of Health Services in Tiruppur Corporation limits on Saturday were distributed only among the 130 government vaccination centres across the district and not among the 30 private centres. The preference for the administration of these doses would be given to the beneficiaries above 45 years in need of the second dose of Covishield, the officials said. ....

Tiruppur district wore a mostly deserted look on Sunday with near-empty roads and downed shutters.
Within the Tiruppur City Police limits, usually busy stretches of roads such as Palladam Road, Tiruppur-Avinashi Road, Dharapuram Road and Perumanallur Road were mostly empty with meagre movement of vehicles.
No major violations were reported, the police said. As many as 400 police personnel were deployed and 32 vehicle check-posts were set up in the city, according to the police.
Tiruppur Corporation Commissioner K. Sivakumar said that 10 Amma Canteens were allowed to function till afternoon. “All Assistant Commissioners were instructed to keep [Amma Canteens] open,” he said. ....

Police personnel checking motorists in the city on Tuesday night after the curfew began.  
The Coimbatore City and District (Rural) Police together deployed around 900 personnel for special checks and patrols to enforce the night curfew that came into effect at 10 p.m. on Tuesday. The police force across Coimbatore city and rural was asked to maintain composure while dealing with people, including motorists, during the curfew between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m.
In Coimbatore city, around 400 police personnel were deployed, and City Police Commissioner S. Davidson Devasirvatham instructed them to enforce the curfew in a polite manner. Personnel on curfew duty were also advised to use body-worn cameras depending on the availability. ....

The Intellectual Property Right Enforcement Cell police arrested a shopowner from Kattoor on Friday on charges of selling duplicate electrical cables in his shop. A release from the police said that Anoop Singh (35) was possessing duplicate products in his shop, which is an illegal imitation of a popular brand, that was worth around ₹ 14.5 lakh. The police seized the products and remanded the accused in judicial custody.
FSSAI seizes damaged eggs
Officials from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) seized around 4,200 damaged eggs recently and booked a man on charges of selling these eggs. FSSAI Designated Officer (Tiruppur) B. Vijayalalithambigai said that the damaged eggs were found during a vehicle check on Tiruppur-Avinashi Road on Thursday.
