Summer in Auckland can often turn dark and oppressive. On days when the slow approach of a tropical thunderstorm turned the sky black and drained the Waitākere ranges of colour, I dreaded heading out to
the Roseridge rest home in Henderson. It was deathly weather and it trapped the residents inside as surely as lockdown. They were housebound, feeble. Old age is a slope of decline and fall – the physical indignities, the mind wandering into some lunar wasteland. A visit on days like that seemed a bleak and cheerless way to spend my time but in fact every time I visited Roseridge in the summer of 2020-21, I left on a high, as though I had emerged from some strange and magical kingdom. ....

ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet rejected resumption of trade with India as suggested by the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC), reiterating the government’s stated position that India should first revert to the August 5, 2019 position and move towards resolution of the Kashmir issue.
Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry said this while addressing a press conference here on Thursday, after attending the federal cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan through the video link.
The minister emphasized that resumption of trade with India is not possible without the resolution of the core dispute of Kashmir. “We favour trade with New Delhi, but India should first return to the pre August 5 position. Such decisions (trade resumption) will be gauged vis-à-vis the yardstick set in this context by the government,” he said. He said the media gave headlines of government’s decision to resume trade with India ....

April 1, 2021
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Ahsan Iqbal has said that the federal government had taken a historic U-turn in allowing the import of cotton, sugar and yarn from India.
In a Tweet on Wednesday, he raised many questions after the Economic Coordination Committee approved import of the commodities. He asked whether (Indian Prime Minister Narendra) Modi was not Hitler anymore? Whether Modi had vacated the illegal seizure of Kashmir? Whether cruelty and barbarism had stopped in Kashmir? Kashmir had been sold for delaying of one billion payment?
The PML-N leader asked the Imran Khan government to be ashamed of it (Kuch Sharam Karo, Haya Karo). Meanwhile, addressing a press conference here, the PML-N Secretary General Ahsan Iqbal said the government had now bargained on the Kashmir issue for the sake of one billion dollars rollover and following diplomacy by a friendly country, the core dispute has been on the backburner. “Imran Khan w ....
