Some expats voted for the first time during extended holidays.
Indian expatriates from the UAE who travelled to vote in the Indian Assembly elections told
Khaleej Times the experience was good.
While several expatriates travelled to India to cast their votes, some of them, who were in India on extended holidays, have been able to vote for the first time.
Polling is underway in four states and one union territory – West Bengal, Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. ....

More than 74 per cent of the 33.21 lakh voters in the district exercised their franchise to elect 16 members to the Assembly on Tuesday. In the Malappuram Lok Sabha by-election too, 74.53 per cent voters polled their votes.

The LDF changed its candidate in Tirurangadi with the objective of exploiting the displeasure brewing among a section in the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) over K.P.A. Majeed’s candidacy there.
The CPI’s official candidate Ajith Kolady had already begun electioneering in Tirurangadi for the LDF when a section within the IUML raised a banner of protest against Mr. Majeed. Making a calculated move, the LDF replaced Mr. Kolady with an Independent candidate Niyas Pulikkalakath. ....

The BJP has surprised voters of Malappuram by fielding M. Abdul Salam, former Vice Chancellor of Calicut University, in Tirur.
Dr. Salam will take on the UDF’s Kurukkoli Moideen and the LDF’s Gafoor P. Lillis.
