Japan to open large-scale vaccination centers in Tokyo, Osaka

The Japanese government is planning to open large vaccination centers in Tokyo and Osaka in the coming weeks in a bid to speed up its inoculation drive, local media reported on Sunday.
The Nikkei newspaper said on Sunday the government will open a vaccination site in central Tokyo as early as May that will be able to vaccinate around 10,000 people a day.
The site will be open to anyone living and working in Tokyo, the paper said, adding that medically trained staff from Japan s Self-Defense Forces will also assist with vaccinations in such centers. ....

Open letter to president: Sarina Isa asks why Quetta commission proposals ignored

ISLAMABAD: Sarina Isa, spouse of Justice Qazi Faez Isa on Friday questioned the non-implementation of the recommendations made in the Quetta Inquiry Commission Report, issued in 2016, on terrorist attacks in the provincial metropolitan city of Balochistan.
In an open letter sent to President Dr Arif Alvi, Ms Isa said had the recommendations of the Quetta Inquiry Commission report been implemented, the April 21 terrorist attack in Serena Hotel in Quetta, and others, including the attacks on the Hazara community, might not have taken place.
She said that the injured were assisted by volunteers and shifted to hospitals in NGOs ambulances. “Army ambulances should also have been deployed, and all the more so since the hotel is situated in a cantonment area”, she added. ....

Shooter Shakil Ahmed ended 8th with a score of 113.9 in the men’s 10m air pistol of the day-long Singapore Open Online Shooting on Saturday.
A total of four Bangladesh shooters took part in the competition. Risalatul Islam ranked 8th scoring 120.8 in the men’s 10 air rifle and Sayeda Atkia Hasan Disha 7th scoring 144.2 in the women’s 10m air rifle. Another shooter Nafisa Tabassum failed to qualify in the final round of the women’s 10m air rifle.

TAXILA: Soaring prices of daily-use items have irked the poor and middle classes of society in the twin cities of Taxila and Wah Cantt.
People were seen standing in long queues at Ramazan sasta (cheap) bazaars and outside the Utility Stores Corporation (USC) outlets to purchase one kilogram of sugar at the official rate in the city. The administration has badly failed to implement the Lahore High Court (LHC) orders about ensuring availability of the commodity in the open market.
Residents complained that there was no difference between prices of edibles in sasta bazaars and local markets. They said a few vendors were brought for an hour to conduct photo sessions at the sasta bazaars. This scribe visited Taxila and Wah Cantt bazaars on Wednesday and talked to visitors and the TMA employees. Citizens said that chicken (alive) price had jumped to Rs305 per kg in the local ....
