Canterbury consent replacement raises concerns about nitrates

An independent commissioner is to consider the MHV water cooperative s bid for a replacement consent to irrigate 56,000 hectares of private farmland for the next 10 years.
However, opponents feared higher levels of nitrate would be discharged, which they said could affect drinking water.
The public cannot make submissions, because they were able to do so as part of the original consent process.
But environmental group Aotearoa Water Action believed their views should be taken into account when the replacement consent is considered, too, and said there was a case to challenge that. ....

Girls with 'Moxie': More Christchurch students join fight against sexual harassment

“After hearing about the Girls’ High protest, we wanted to support their voice.”

Christchurch Girls High students attempted to lead a sexual harassment protest to a neighbouring boys school, but were turned back.
Thursday s rally was Moxie’s first activity as a group, but it will not be their last.
“We were very excited about it. We had an amazing turnout, a lot of people came to support our cause in a positive way,” one of the students said.
“I think our next step would be to really establish the club, and maybe think of a new name.
“Possibly distributing educational flyers around the school, trying to improve people’s awareness of this issue. ....
