LAHORE : Government College University Lahore faculty and other staff on Friday initially donated Rs3.5 million as Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Asghar Zaidi opened fundraising for the construction of a grand mosque on the main campus.
According to a press release, the fundraising campaign was started during the weekly Durs-e-Quran session where the university staff and faculty unanimously decided to construct the mosque but also made initial donations for the mosque.
The VC made the first donation for the mosque and then others.
The VC said a small gathering of faculty and staff members present in the auditorium donated Rs3.5 million. He said now the fundraising campaign was being opened to all students, faculty and staff of the university.

LAHORE:Around 104 corona patients died and 3,228 new positive cases were confirmed in Punjab during the last 24 hours.
According to Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department (P&SHD) report issued Tuesday, the death toll reached 7,561 in Punjab, while confirmed cases became 273,566 in the province. As per the spokesperson for Corona Monitoring Room at P&SHD, 41,074 tests have been conducted in the last 24 hours, which raised the total number of tests to 4,354,179 in the province.
183,295 recover: The Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department (SHC&MED), Punjab, Secretary Barrister Nabeel Awan said that around 183,295 corona patients recovered in 200 public sector hospitals while 822 patients recovered during the last 24 hours. LAHORE: Punjab Governor/Chancellor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar on Thursday withdrew his orders about holding an inquiry against Government College University (GCU) Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Asghar Zaidi for allegedly harassing and threatening the chairperson of computer science department with dire consequences.
The governor had, on April 12, issued directions to the Higher Education Department (HED) secretary to conduct an inquiry against Prof Zaidi for allegedly harassing computer science department chairperson Prof Dr Syed Asad Raza Kazmi and submit a detailed report within 15 days.
However, the governor withdrew his orders in three days due to reasons unknown while his spokesperson was also not available for a comment.
