The election of Assam State Cooperative Apex Bank (ACAB) scheduled for May 21 is passing through many ifs and buts in the wake of surging Covid 19 cases.
A section of the government is of the view that since there are over 2800 eligible voters and it may not be possible to observe the Covid protocols in the true spirit in the given situation, revealed a top official of the bank to the Indian Cooperative correspondent.
Meanwhile, the list of successful nominations announced last week, revealed that Chief Minister of the state Himanta Biswa Sarma (who is a candidate for a berth on the Board) may have to face voting on 21 ....

Directors oppose appointment of new MD in Assam State Co-op Bank

A serious fight is afoot between some board members and Vice-Chairman of the Assam State Cooperative Bank. The issue in question is the appointment of a new Managing Director in the bank. The directors have sought the intervention of the bank Chairman Himanta Biswa who at present is the minister in Sarbananda Sonowal’s cabinet and has little time to focus on the co-op bank’s affairs.
Due to his tight schedule, the Minister has given the charge of Chairman to Biswajit Phukan, Vice-Chairman of the bank. Most of the BoD members are opposed to Phukan and allege that he is ruining the bank for his narrow interests. ....
