Town of Saugeen Shores staff is preparing zoning bylaw changes that will remove a number of barriers that prevent construction of affordable and rental housing, including allowing six-storey buildings in a corridor along either side of Goderich St. in Port Elgin.

It was a big night for housing in Saugeen Shores as the Town’s planning committee approved removing barriers that impede construction of affordable housing – housing that costs less that 30 percent of a households’ income.
The planning committee, meeting virtually via Zoom June 21, approved town-wide zoning bylaw changes, including allowing six-storey buildings in the core of Port Elgin. ....

News that a developer plans to include up to 22 secondary rental units in a proposed townhouse development in north-west Port Elgin is “something to celebrate” as the Town of Saugeen Shores attempts to encourage developers to build affordable housing.
