The police in the Bono Region have arrested two men for allegedly transporting 260 packets of compressed dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
The two are, Awudu Yakubu, 32, a driver and Ibrahim Haruna, 37, the alleged owner of the banned substance.

Bono police arrest 2 people with 260 slabs of dried cannabis en-route to Niger

Two male suspects, aged 32 and 37 have been arrested by the Bono regional police command with 260 yellow compressed slabs suspected to be cannabis.
Awudu Yakubu and Ibrahim Haruna concealed the substances in a Yutong bus with registration number GC 5118 -Z en-route to Niger with 18 other passengers, all Nigerians.
The suspected cannabis was concealed in the air condition compartment of the bus.
The Deputy Bono Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Baba Saanid Adamu said the driver, Yakubu, alleged he was hired by Haruna to transport the substances to Niger.
The bus was loaded at Allabar, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region. ....

The Bono Regional Police Command yesterday impounded a Niger-bound VIP bus loaded with 260 slabs compressed leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp, at Techiman in Bono East Region.
According to the police, the key suspects, Ibrahim Haruna, 37, and Awudu Yakubu, driver of the VIP bus with registration number GC5118 Z, claimed they were not the owners of the consignment, but have been directed to deliver the ‘goods’ to someone in Niger.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Baba Saanid Adamu, Deputy Bono Regional Police Commander, who confirmed the story, here in Sunyani, yesterday, said the suspects were arrested upon a tip-off. ....

Covid-19 kills police officer in Bono Region

A police officer has been confirmed dead after contracting the Covid-19 virus.
This was confirmed in a release signed by the Deputy Bono Regional Police Commander, ACP Baba Saanid Adamu.
The release was to disregard a video circulating on social media that some police officers from the Bono Regional Command have been poisoned through a drink causing the death of the said police inspector.
According to the Regional Police Command, Inspector Alfred Afortey Armah died of Covid-19 and not drink poisoning as many are speculating.
He said the inspector was admitted at the Brong Ahafo Regional Hospital but passed away on February 5. ....
