Checkpoints helping to encourage people to stay within their 5km

Checkpoints on roads have been effective at helping to encourage people to make only essential journeys during Level 5 restrictions, according to gardai.
Chief Superintendent Denis Ferry spoke at Wicklow County Council s Joint Policing Committee meeting about gardai s work during the Covid-19 pandemic during an overview of policing achievements in the county last year, based on provisional crime figures.
The Chief Superintendent said gardai had used static and mobile checkpoints to deter people taking non-essential journeys by car. While he highlighted the value of roving checkpoints, he noted there had been a need for static checkpoints during Level 5 restrictions. In relation to people coming into the county, the gardai had sought to explain and encourage people to remain within 5km of their home. Bernadette's long fight is over as speech and language therapist recruited for north Wicklow

An adult speech and language therapist is being recruited for north Wicklow, after years without one in the area, and following a three-year battle by local woman Bernadette McGrath.
Deputy Steven Matthews received a letter from the HSE last week confirming that recruitment process is under way.
This is an issue that I have been pushing for since the start of the summer after meeting with the wife of a man who had suffered an acquired brain injury and required speech and language therapy, said Deputy Matthews.
She outlined in detail the lack of services for those broadly in Wicklow but highlighted north Wicklow in particular due to the complete lack of public services, he said. This lady deserves enormous credit for the tireless work she has done on this issue, lobbying the HSE, local TDs and various ministers to advocate for the need of this service in north Wicklow.
