Badminton: Shuttler continues dominating form to clinch SU5 men's singles title


PETALING JAYA: There’s just no stopping national para badminton ace Cheah Liek Hou.
The 33-year-old celebrated his sixth victory on the trot by winning the Spanish Para-Badminton International in Cartagena yesterday.
World No. 2 Liek Hou was simply in a class of his own as he powered past Taiyo Imai of Japan 21-13,21-11 in a lopsided, 34-minute SU5 men’s singles final (impairment in upper body) to retain his 100% record against the world No. 5 after five meetings.
Although this title was won in the absence of his two Indonesian arch-rivals, world No. 1 Dheva Anrimusthi and No. 3 Suryo Nugroho, Liek Hou stressed the importance of keeping the strong momentum going with the Paralympic Games looming in three months time. ....

India’s top para shuttler Parul Parmar said the Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum 3rd Dubai Para Badminton International 2021 Championships will set the tone for an important year which has the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games and the World Championships lined up later in the year.
Parmar, the top seed here and world no. 1 in the women s SL3 event, was happy that international events have resumed after a gap of more than a year. The last BWF event was the Peru International held in February 2020.
“More than anything, I am happy that international competition has resumed. It s an important year as we have the Tokyo 2020 and Paralympic Games and this event will set the tone for the big events. I am happy that I could pull off my first singles played after so long. ....

Eighteen-year-old Prakash Adhikari from Nepal was nervous but grew in confidence with each match at the ongoing Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum 3rd Dubai Para Badminton International 2021 Championships, his first international competition after having played the sport locally in Kathmandu for the last four years.
Adhikari, who hails from Surkhet district in Karnali province of Nepal, was proud to represent his nation at the Championships; wants to gain experience and make the most of this opportunity in his nascent career. Nepal is participating for the first time at the Dubai 2021 International. ....
