NSW Police Force launches Missing Persons familial DNA collection pilot program
The NSW Police Force will launch a familial DNA collection pilot program on the state’s Mid North Coast next month, which aims to assist detectives with ongoing historic missing persons investigations.
Following a comprehensive review of operations, the NSW Police Force announced the establishment of the Missing Persons Registry (MPR) and the implementation of new systems and procedures, which came into effect in July 2019.
Since that time, the MPR has undertaken a review of all 769 long-term missing persons cases in NSW and identified a lack of Direct or familial DNA profiles for a significant number of historical investigations. ....

Police are set to employ a bold new tactic as they continue the hunt for the long list of missing people in NSW - and work to identify the more than 330 mystery bodies on record.
A new program aimed at collecting the DNA of biological relatives of missing persons on the state s mid-north coast has been launched, after a review of case files revealed a lack of direct or familial DNA.
The pilot, set to begin in Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie, will feed information to the NSW Police s Missing Person Registry - whose officers are currently searching for 769 long-term missing people. ....
