Art museum to host teen-curated exhibitions in Glenwood Springs and Rifle

The Aspen Art Museum is producing new student exhibitions through its new Teen Curators program this spring at Glenwood Springs High School and the Rifle Branch Library.
They are curated by Annika Bucchin of Glenwood High and Lily McCann-Klausz of Rifle High.
The shows result from the annual program formerly known as Young Curators of the Roaring Fork, which had been running since 2005, downsized for 2020-21 to two teen curators. It follows the museum’s expansive inaugural Youth Art Expo, which opened in March and showed local student art in the main galleries at the museum for the first time since the new downtown building opened in 2014. The museum also has established a Teen Council and Teen Artists program that, along with the Teen Curators, forms a new Teen Art Corps initiative for the institution. ....

A Garfield County resource seeks more people to serve

Garfield County’s libraries are asking for community feedback through a series of focus groups they’ll be conducting over Zoom.
James Larson, the marketing and communications manager for the county’s libraries, said some might consider libraries an outdated resource, but they continue to be a place for education and information and want to be as accessible to the needs of community members as possible.
“We are a center of knowledge, information, knowledge creation. We are here for everyone in the community. … It’s fairly obvious the (Latino) community is neglected in a lot of senses. With other government’s entities. We’re basically here to promote reading and education no matter what it takes to get a person there,” Larson said. ....

Aspen Art Museum to host Youth Art Expo

The Aspen Art Museum is encouraging young artists from Aspen to Rifle to submit artwork for its new Roaring Fork Youth Art Expo, to run Feb. 27 through March 14.
The student show, open to area K-12 students, marks the first time local student art will hang in the museum’s galleries since its new building opened in 2014 and the first time the museum made an open call for local student art since the Valley Kids Art Show was discontinued in 2005.
Los Angeles-based artist Adam Stamp is organizing the exhibition, titled “Still Lifes and Works from Home.” It will center around artwork created at home and inspired by three thematic prompts for works of varied sizes: something or someone you miss (8.5-by-11 inches); your favorite object or room in your home (11-by-17 inches); and a meal you enjoy eating (18-by-24 inches). ....
