Following reports that EOH will pay back millions relating to the Department of Defence (DoD) contract, the company has issued the following statement:
EOH wishes to provide clarity on the events that led up to the signature of the Acknowledgement of Debt (AoD), which is referenced in the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) media statement of 21 April 2021, regarding the Department of Defence (DoD) contract, as well as the subsequent media reports.
From inception of the ENSafrica forensics investigation in February 2019, EOH has transparently and proactively reported to the authorities, including the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigations (DPCI), the FIC (Financial Intelligence Centre), the SIU and the Department of National Treasury, regarding wrongdoing by a handful of former employees of the EOH Public Sector team. By 8 July 2019, the DPCI had received a section 34 report on the ENSafrica preliminary findings and the matter had been reported to the ....

Local smartphone manufacturer Mara Phones has become the preferred supplier for the South African government mobile communication services for the next five years.
Mara phones was awarded the contract to supply and deliver mobile communication services until 2026.
Managing Director of Mara Phones SA Sylvester Taku says the contract is a huge boost to South Africa’s local economy and employment.
“All other device brands supplied by Vodacom, MTN, Cell C and Telkom in terms of the recently-announced five-year transversal contract are now considered secondary to Mara Phones.”
There are three main categories of the Government’s transversal contract, and in the mobile devices category Mara Phones is listed across the four networks as the first preferred brand with all other brands being secondary. ....

Local manufacturer becomes preferred brand for government mobile

The country’s only manufacturer of mobile devices has praised the South African government’s massive vote of confidence in its decision to recognise Mara Phones as its preferred device brand in all procurements for the next five years.
In an official statement, the company says that in the recently awarded RT15-2021 contract for “the supply and delivery of mobile communication services to the state for the period 01 April 2021 to 31 March 2026”, National Treasury requires preference to be given to local mobile device manufacturers – and as the only one of its kind in the country and on the continent, Mara Phones has accordingly been given first preference in the published list of nominated OEMs. ....
