Four die after car plunges down flyover and bursts into flames

BANTING: Four friends died after the luxury car they were travelling in plunged down a flyover and burst into flames.
Selangor Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Azman Shariat said the incident occurred along KM30.8 of the South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE) early yesterday morning.
“The four were travelling from Saujana Putra towards Banting when the driver lost control of the vehicle, which crashed into the left-side divider before plunging down the flyover and catching fire.
“All four victims were burnt to death, ” he said when contacted yesterday.
He said the four had been identified as businessman Tan Hiang Hock, 30, mechanic Tan Poh Hock, 22, salesperson Low Jin Wen, 18, and Vietnamese woman Phan Thi Bich, 24. ....

Toll hike postponement covers highways, bridges

PETALING JAYA: The postponement of toll hikes this year will be extended to 20 highways and two bridges, including the SMART Tunnel, and is expected to cost taxpayers over RM2bil.
In a statement yesterday, the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) said the government would have to pay RM2.093bil to postpone hikes due this year.
This did not include obligations to pay RM160.1mil to defer hikes on toll charges for the Kesas Highway, South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE) and Lebuhraya Pantai Timur 2 (LPT2), it added.
“In line with the government’s decision, consumers will continue to enjoy toll payments at a lower rate compared to the toll rates under the concession agreements. ....

Toll hikes delayed to next year

PETALING JAYA: Toll hikes for major highways have been postponed to 2022 to ease the burden of the people due to the rising cost of living, says Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
Fadillah said delaying the toll hikes, which were supposed to take effect on Jan 1 this year, will cost the government RM2.25bil.
He noted the estimated compensation for the increase of toll rates for Kesas Highway, South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE) and Lebuhraya Pantai Timur 2 (LPT2) will only cost the government RM160.1mil.
However, he said the continuation of the postponement of toll rates involving 21 highways and one toll plaza will cost the government RM2.093bil. ....
