Stuff under the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act (LGOIMA) show that on February 24, a very weak ‘putrid, foul, decayed’ odour “consistent with that which is discharged from Alliance” was detected approximately 1km southwest of the facility.
On February 23, it was reported a ‘dead animal’ odour plume extended approximately 200 metres south of the South Canterbury By Products facility and “within approximately 150m of the facility odour was rated as -3 (very unpleasant) on the hedonic scale, with “odour intensities” ranging from (no odour) to 3 (distinct).
A log of the Smelt-It app complaints showed several people made complaints about odours coming from the Alliance Smithfield plant during February, with many declaring it “unbearable”. ....
