KP PA Speaker expresses sorrow over losses due to rains

PESHAWAR: Speaker KP Assembly, Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani on Monday expressed heartiest sorrow over the losses due to rains in district Abbottabad.
In a statement he said that prevention of natural disasters is impossible for humans, however, the government will perform its duty and utilize energies on construction of drainage systems and overcoming other problems.
He said that in past, Cantonment Board had allowed the construction of houses over drains that abolished drainage system and that was reason behind inundating of the areas of Cantonment board.
The Speaker said that he has talked to the authorities of Cantonment Board and directed them to not only resolve drainage problems. ....

Encroachments are creating impediments to the smooth flow of traffic as encroachers have set up their kiosks on footpaths in the city.
Encroachers can be seen in Chungi No 22, Bara Market, Namak Mandi, Narnkari Bazaar, Fawara Chowk, Trunk Bazaar, Jamia Masjid Road, Sadiqabad, Muslim Town, Commercial Market, Saidpur Road, Khayaban-e-Sir Syed, Asghar Mall Road, Ganjmandi Road, Dhoke Mangtal Road and Bagh Sardaran in the city.
Speaking to the media Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Rai Mazhar Iqbal said encroachments were a major obstacle in the smooth flow of traffic, adding that traffic police were making all-out efforts to avoid traffic snarls on roads. He asked the traders to cooperate with traffic police in eradicating encroachment. ....

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) assembly adopted three supplementary resolutions and deferred debate on an adjournment motion regarding law and order in the province on Friday. The House adopted three supplementary resolutions demanding Sehat Insaf Cards for children suffering from Thalassemia, easy access to Islamabad airport by constructing an interchange on Peshawar-Islamabad motorway and legislation for the adoption of children.
These resolutions were sponsored by PPPP and MMAP lawmakers. A report of Standing Committee on Higher Education, Archives and Libraries Department was adopted by the House. The House took up six out nine starred questions while lawmakers asked two supplementary questions. The Chair referred a privilege motion of PTI lawmaker to the relevant committee which was against Tehsil ....

Students rescued as school catches fire in Balakot

MANSEHRA: Hundreds of students were rescued by the locals and traders when a prefabricated school building caught heavy fire in Balakot on Wednesday.
The fire, which erupted because of the electric short-circuit, prompted the locals to take to the streets and protest against the Tehsil Municipal Administration Balakot as its only fire-tender has been out of order for the last many weeks.
The fire, which broke out at one of the prefabricated classrooms caused a stampede at the Islamia Modern High School and College and locals rescued the students out of the classrooms amid a raging blaze. ....
