Immigration hackers had help from those in the know

PUTRAJAYA: The syndicate that hacked into the Immigration’s computer systems had the help of those who knew how to go about doing it without raising alarm by roping in those who had easy access to the data centre, revealed sources.
The syndicate did not only manage to “get in touch” with the people who supplied the systems to the department but also convinced unethical Immigration officers to be in cahoots with them.
In a fresh round of arrests on Thursday against individuals believed to be involved in the syndicate’s activities, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission arrested six suspects – two from Immigration and four employees of the company that supplies the computer systems to the department. ....

Police to probe authenticity of audio clip, says minister

KUALA LUMPUR: Police will investigate reports lodged over an alleged recording of a phone conversation between Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, says Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.
“We will investigate to determine the authenticity of the recording and what the conversation was about. If the conversation did not take place, it means it is slander, ” he said after launching the start of the development of the National Integrated Immigration System (NIISe) here yesterday.
Hamzah said even if the conversation between Ahmad Zahid and Anwar was genuine, it was a matter for them to resolve. ....

Home Minister: Cops will investigate any report lodged over alleged Anwar-Zahid audio clip

KUALA LUMPUR: The police will investigate any report lodged on the alleged recording of a conversation between Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, says Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.
We will investigate to determine the authenticity of the recording and what the conversation was about. If the conversation did not take place, this means that it is slander, said the Home Minister.
He added that if the conversation between Ahmad Zahid and Anwar is genuine, it is a matter for both men to resolve themselves.
He said this when speaking to reporters after launching the ceremony marking the start of the development of the National Integrated Immigration System here on Thursday (April 8). ....

That's NIISe: Billion-ringgit system to replace Immigration Dept's vulnerable MyIMMs by 2024

KUALA LUMPUR: More than a billion ringgit will be spent to replace the archaic Malaysian Immigration System (MyIMMs) which has become increasingly prone to hacking, says Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.
His announcement came just days after a syndicate involved in hacking the MyIMMS was crippled by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and Immigration Department.
The new National Integrated Immigration System (NIISe) will cost over a billion to develop and will replace MyIMMs which is over 20 years old, he told reporters after launching the ceremony to mark the start of development on NIISe here on Thursday (April 8).
He said the current system has been in use for such a long time that it has become prone to manipulation by outsiders. ....

KUALA LUMPUR, April 8 The Home Ministry (KDN) today launched the National Integrated Immigration System (NIISe) project to replace the 20-year-old Malaysian Immigration System (MyIMMs).
Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said the government had approved a specific allocation to develop NIISe so that the country’s immigration system remained relevant.
He said this included aspects of the service delivery system to the people and also aspects of national sovereignty and security. ....
