The National Road Carriers Association is calling for an urgent review of the
state highway network as consultation begins to reassess speed limits on nearly two-thirds of Northland s state highways.
Speed limits on 626km – 64
per cent - of the 978km of roading the Government s transport agency maintains across the region could be slashed as part of sweeping nationwide changes to reduce the road death toll. ....

The council s been trying to make the thoroughfare more people-friendly, by widening footpaths and adding public spaces.
The Save the Queen Street incorporated society has filed for an injunction to halt a new 1.1 million dollar makeover.
Now National Road Carriers Association s Chris Carr says these changes would have a significant impact on freight and courier deliveries.
He says it would create situations were there isn t enough room for people to deliver. ....

Proposed roading layout changes to Queen Street will make freight and courier deliveries to downtown retail and office businesses more difficult and unsafe and says National Road Carriers Association (NRC) spokesman Chris Carr.
Auckland Transport has proposed changes to the way vehicles use Queen Street including:
· The northbound lane on Queen Street between Shortland Street and Customs Street becoming a bus lane at peak times between 7am-10am and 4pm-7pm. Delivery vehicles must use the southbound lane at these times.
· Full-time bus lanes in both directions creating a bus-only section on Queen Street between Wakefield Street and Wellesley Street. ....
