Mozambicans warned to brace for more floods


Mozambique’s relief agency, the National Institute for Disaster Risk Management and Reduction (INGRD), has warned that more than 30,000 people may be affected by flooding in the next two days in the southern Gaza province.
The relief agency has attributed the flooding to the overflow of the Limpopo and Shingwedzi rivers due to heavy rains caused by Cylone Eloise.
INGRD warned those living in the districts of Xai-Xai and Limpopo districts to leave the area for their own safety due to the expected floodings.
A tropical cyclone that hit central Mozambique on the weekend has displaced thousands of people and caused severe flooding in an area battered by two deadly cyclones in 2019, response teams and aid agencies said. ....

JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) - The death toll from storm Eloise rose to at least 13 on Monday after heavy winds, rain and flooding destroyed buildings, drowned crops and displaced thousands in parts of southern Africa.
Eloise weakened from a cyclone to a tropical storm after making landfall in central Mozambique on Saturday, but continued to dump rain on Zimbabwe, eSwatini - formerly known as Swaziland - South Africa and Botswana.
Six people were killed in Mozambique, the country’s National Institute for Disaster Risk Management and Reduction (INGD) reported, while the number of displaced people rose to more than 8,000, with thousands of homes wrecked or flooded. ....

The weather service issued a red level-10 warning for eastern parts of Limpopo and Mpumalanga for Sunday into Monday.

The community of Luvhalani in the Vhembe district of Limpopo is picking up the pieces after tropical storm Eloise hit from Sunday morning.
