More than half a billion dollars will be given to a new agency overseeing national responses to major natural disasters, to help communities recover and rebuild.
The federal government will create the National Recovery and Resilience Agency (NRRA) to both provide relief to communities and advise it on how to mitigate the impacts of future weather events following through on one of the recommendations of the bushfire royal commission. ....

Scott Morrison announces $600million for bushfire and cyclone disaster funding


Australians vulnerable to bushfires, floods and cyclones could have their homes upgraded to make them more resistant with new federal funding to combat natural disasters.
In the wake of the horrific 2019 bushfires and floods and cyclones this year, Scott Morrison is setting up the National Recovery and Resilience Agency to respond to future catastrophes.
The agency will be given $600million for beefing up the defences of regional communities and training emergency services to deal with disasters.

The Morrison Government is backing local communities hit by last year’s bushfires with $10 million in grants for wildlife and habitat recovery through hands on projects from setting up bee hotels and creating community nurseries, to cultural burning and installing nest boxes.
Part of the Morrison Government’s $200 million bushfire recovery for wildlife and habitat package, the grants will fund 88 projects across New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Victoria, Australian Capital Territory and Western Australia.
Minister for Agriculture, Drought and Emergency Management and Deputy Leader of the Nationals David Littleproud said that bushfire recovery for wildlife and habitat package was a key component of the more than $2 billion in assistance through the National Bushfire Recovery Fund. ....

Prioritise East Gippsland to support community-led recovery
East Gippsland Shire Council continues to work side-by-side with bushfire-impacted communities, supporting timely and appropriate community-led projects and initiatives.
Council’s role in advocating for funding allocations under the Regional Local Economic Recovery Stimulus (LERS) Program has supported some of the many great projects put forward in East Gippsland.
“The recent announcement of significant investment in 10 local projects is great news for our communities and we thank both the Commonwealth and Victorian governments for recognising the importance of these projects,” Mayor Cr Mendy Urie said.
However, the allocation to East Gippsland in comparison to the North East of Victoria has left Council surprised and disappointed, prompting Mayor Cr Mendy Urie to write to Minister for Agriculture, Drought and Emergency Management David Littleproud and Acting Minister for Police and Eme ....
