UAE passes law setting up National Human Rights Authority


Abu Dhabi: Members of the Federal National Council on Tuesday passed a draft law setting up an independent National Human Rights Authority which aims to promote and protect human rights in the country, and work to spread the culture of human rights and educate members of society about them.
Under the bill, which requires signing into a law by the President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the authority will develop a network of individuals and institutions around the world that empowers vulnerable segments of society.
“Women, children, labourers, the elderly, people of determination and the vulnerable have rights that must be safeguarded. The authority will advance our country’s efforts in protecting human rights,” Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, said as the Caniet approved the draft law in December last year. ....

One of the more absurd objections to Israel’s normalization with new Arab countries was that since these countries are human rights violators, the new normalization deals will make human rights worse.
As usual, the critics are wrong. Peace with Israel is seen in these countries as a part of their modernization, including adopting human rights principles. The two go hand in hand. ....

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has approved the formation of an independent National Human Rights Authority.
Sheikh Mohammed did so during a cabinet meeting in Abu Dhabi’s Qasr Al Watan on Monday, December 14.
Via the new human rights authority, the UAE aims to develop a network of individuals and institutions around the world that empowers vulnerable segments of society. ....

ABU DHABI The United Arab Emirates on Monday announced the formation of an authority to ensure human rights are upheld in the country. The new body will also aim to establish the country’s status in persevering human rights in regional and global spheres.
In a Cabinet meeting held on Monday, Vice President and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who is also the ruler of Dubai, approved the formation of the National Human Rights Authority. ....
