Diveshni Naidu is hoping that Government will assist her dreams of becoming a doctor one day.
The 19-year-old is among hundreds of students awaiting word from the Tertiary Scholarship and Loans Board (TSLB) on the status of the MBBS programs.
“My family was really sad to receive news that scholarships and loans were being suspended for these programs as they know how hard I have worked to try and secure a scholarship,” Ms Naidu said. ....

The Tertiary Scholarship and Loans Board has received 2755 applications by January 7, said Chief Executive Officer Bobby Maharaj.
1526 applications were for National Toppers Local Scholarship Scheme, 976 for Tertiary Education Loans Scheme for New Students, 142 applications were lodged for Tertiary Education Loans Scheme for Existing Students, 24 applications were made for Tertiary Education Loans Scheme for Public Sector Employees, 31 were received for Tertiary Education Loans Scheme for Private Sector Employees,49 applications were made for Tertiary Education Loans Scheme for TCF Students and 7 applications were lodged for Tertiary Education Loans Scheme for Year 12 students for FNU Engineering programs. ....

2,755 students have so far applied for scholarships and loans with the Tertiary Scholarship and Loans Board.
The Board has confirmed that applications are still open for the National Toppers Local Scholarship, Scholarship Scheme for Students with Special Needs and Tertiary Education Loans Scheme for new students and Technical College of Fiji Students, until 24th January 2021.
Currently, 1,526 students have applied for National Toppers Local Scholarship Scheme, 976 students have applied for TELS for the first time while 142 existing TELS students have also applied.
TSLB says students who have completed Year 12 or 13 in 2020, are reminded that they must register and apply before 24th January 2021 even if they do not have their results, final program offer letter, rent or hostel agreement or evidence of residential address from where they will be travelling for classes. ....
